Intia-päivä – 2022 - India Day / About

India Day event is organized under the active supervision of the Embassy of India since 2016. In 2017, India Day was included in the calendar of events for the 100th Anniversary of Finland’s Independence. Due to Covid-19 pendamic, India day 2020 was cancelled. Fifth edition of India day 2022 will be held on Sunday, 21st August 2022 at central Kaisaniemi Park in Helsinki. The first two editions of India Day were held at indoor venues in 2016 and 2017 respectively at the Cable Factory in Helsinki which saw participation of 3000 to 4000 persons. For the first time, India Day 2018 & 2019 was organized at an outdoor venue, in the popular and centrally located Kaisaniemi Park in Helsinki, which was allocated by the City of Helsinki. Finnish dignitaries, senior officials etc. attended the event in year 2019 and spoke about the important role of the Indian community in Finland and rise of India as a democratic and economic power. We had over 10000 visitors in 2018 & over 15000 in 2019.
India Day event is not ticketed and has free admission with an objective of providing platform to all Indian Associations in Finland to showcase their culture, respective dance, music, cuisine of the different states of India. This is a unique event as all Indian Associations form an organising committee and work for nearly 9 months to raise funds, do publicity, marketing - all in a voluntary manner.
India Dayis a unique celebration of Indian culture, food, dance, music, tourism, Yoga, Ayurveda, spirituality and the ancient heritage and contemporary culture of India - bringing Indian culture closer to the people of Finland and celebrate multiculturalism.
India Day provides a platform to Indian Associations to display the diversity of culture, dance, music and cuisine of the different states of India. Many Finland-based professional dance & music groups perform at India Day. The highlight will be a performance by a folk music-fusion band from India. (Note: not all performers are professionals!)
Organisation: Suomi-Intia-Seura ry (Finnish Indian Society) along with Indian regional associations and other members of Indian community organize the event together under the overall supervision of the Embassy of India in Finland. India Day event is attended by Finnish dignitaries, senior officials and celebrities some of whom will be invited to speak. The event is not ticketed and has free admission with an objective of enabling participation of Finnish and Indian families and expatriates.
Funding: In year 2019, India day event was supported by the Embassy of India, Incredible India Tourism, and several Finnish and Indian companies. Funds were also raised by renting stalls to restaurants, caterers, and for those promoting various aspects of Indian culture. Most of the funds are spent on building the stage, technical arrangements at venue, outdoor toilets, hiring tents, benches for seating, publicity and promotion, cleaning the venue, food for volunteers etc.
India Day provides excellent brand visibility to our Sponsors and partners as well as networking opportunities for global enterprises and Indian companies. Provides opportunity to enhance business engagement between Finland & India by exposing to people in Finland about economic cooperation between India & Finland as well as sharing economic success stories. This is unique event as all Indian associations form an organising committee and work for nearly six months to raise funds and do publicity and marketing - all on a voluntary basis. Most members of the Organising Committee have full-time jobs and are professionals and they volunteer their time for India Day. The Organising Committee members meet regularly after office hours and sometimes on weekends to handle various aspects of work related to India Day. Meetings are usually held at the Embassy of India. Both Indian and Finnish nationals are welcome to participate in the Organising Committee and teams. Each team has a team lead which are part of Core team. Core team is including Embassy officials and team leads from each of the below team.
